Encounter-centered Couples Therapy Intensives
Private Sessions that Will Transform the Relationship of Your Couples Forever
Recently, Hedy received an invitation from Esther Perel, a couples therapist, and the best-selling author of “Mating in Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligence.” Esther wanted Hedy to work with one of her couples in her New York office, and introduce them to the EcCT Intensive, the two day adventure for couples Hedy has developed.
During the Intensive, Esther sat behind Hedy. She observed, and she took notes. She silently lent her presence to the process. And here is what she said:
For two entire days I watched Hedy work with a couple I was seeing in therapy as she artfully, generously and systematically added layer upon layer to the process we were engaged in. Being in the presence of this master therapist, I experienced the kind of deep learning that is destined to make me grow as a therapist. This is “reality” supervision, happening live, in real time, right in front of you. What can be better than having your own private university. Esther Perel, MA, LMFT (New York, NY)
Hedy’s next destination was Chicago. She was invited there by Leo Dhont, an Advanced Clinician in Imago Relationship Therapy. Leo wanted Hedy to work with two of his couples. And here is what he wrote after the experience:
Over the past 10 to 15 years, I have been witness to the ongoing integration of Hedy’s development of an advanced dialogical process which takes couples deeper than the basic Couples Imago Dialogue tends to be capable of achieving. Recently I attended an introductory training session in Asheville, North Carolina where she presented and demonstrated an amalgam of her 20 plus years of research and practice. I was so impressed that I invited her to come into my practice in Wheeling, Illinois where she applied her two-day process, one couple at a time, to two of my couples. These were couples who in my work with them were appreciating the basic dialogue process but obviously yearning for a deeper connection. As I observed in person Hedy’s work with these two couples, I literally watched them each transform their relationship into one of surprising depth and loving connection. I am very excited by the magic in this approach to working w ith couples and look forward to imbibing this wonderful process into my own work with couples! Leo J. Dhont, LCSW (Wheeling, IL)
We share this in the hope that it might inspire you with the opportunity of having your own private university. Therapists have come to our office in Miami Beach with their couples. Therapists from around the country and from other countries have joined their couples. They have sat, and observed the EcCT Intensive process.
Therapists have shared with us four distinct advantages to being there:
- It is a profound training experience, revolutionary, deeply instructive, nourishing and rewarding.
- You will know exactly, minute by minute, what happened during the session
- You will receive a copy of the session report that is given to the couple along with Hedy’s recommended next steps
- You will intuitively know exactly how to continue the journey of connection with the couple, because you will have been with them every step of the way.
We invite you to learn more about the EcCT Intensive process that Esther and Leo and the other therapists have found so powerful, so you will know what it is all about, can tuck it into your resource toolbox, and can suggest it to couples when it would make sense for them.
As a starting point, below is an episode from an Israel TV show where Hedy is working privately with a couple, which will give you a sense of what it is like for a couple working with Hedy in a private session. You can also read Hedy’s step by step process in the booklet called Relational Therapy for Couples : The Tikkun Approach.
If you find yourself stuck with a couple, want to take them another notch deeper, or want to open a new door for them through the EcCT Intensive, please write or call Geoffrey in our office at 305-604-0010 or Geoffrey@HedyYumi.com. He will give you the details so that you can present it well to your couples. Then, you can decide if joining them, whether in Miami Beach, in your home town, or in some other location around the world, would work for you.
Here is what some other therapists have said about attending with their couples:
The private session I was able to sit in on with Hedy was one of the most educational experiences as a therapist that I have ever had. For many months, I had seen my patients as a couple and I had seen both their two children individually. We had made good progress leading up to our session with Hedy, but having the experience of all six of us in one room together for an entire day was intense and moving. All of the myriad of dynamics could play out for all to witness. Father and son healed. Mother and daughter dialogued. Husband and wife worked through frustrations. As a clinician, I have always searched for more in depth training since graduate school. I am constantly looking for new and inventive ways to help my patients. Hedy delivered in spades!!! I learned more in that day than I did in whole semesters in some of my graduate clinical classes. Mark Rutherford, MD, LCSW
I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for inviting me to witness you work with my couple. It was an incredible opportunity for me to see you “up close and personal” doing your ‘magic’ with two very wounded and wounding people. Being the ‘silent witness’ I had the amazing and unique chance of seeing a Master at work, using your voice, eyes, hands, smile, laugh, and whole body in the service of creating safety in the space in-between, as well as trust in the process. What a spectacular teachable moment it was for me! No university degree, nor book, nor seminar could give me the in vivo experience of being in the same room with just you and the couple and watching, sensing, ‘smelling’ and ‘tasting’ on a visceral level how to help the partners connect on the deepest level of their pain. It would be an understatement to say that it was an invaluable experience. One could only dream of being able to be present as their mentor works the process, meeting head on the practical challenges of engaging a couple who is trying to make sense of the pattern of behavior that has been etched on their brains since childhood and, unfortunately, reinforced incessantly by many years of being in unconscious relationships. I feel grateful and blessed to have been with you. It energized and helped me to recommit myself to be diligent and mindful when I help couples to create the safety necessary to cross the bridge. Dita Teitelbaum, MSW, LCSW (Miami, FL)
It was important for me to be there while Hedy so lovingly facilitated the exploration of their issues. In her incredible way, she was able to reach into their “hurt places,” fostering the relational space between them, and creating with them a fertile soil for deeper understanding and connection. She was able to help them re-experience their longing for their “lost love.” My couple is still together, and I am sure the experience they had with Hedy made the difference. Dr. Jim J. Wisecup, D. Min (Stamford, CT)
Here we were, four people in a room, my couple, Hedy and myself, being given the opportunity for intense, inspiring work. I watched Hedy’s intentional, precise, skilled and experienced navigation addressing the bonds, the binds and the attachment ruptures of their relationship. Gali Meiri, LMFT (Israel)
At this time in her life Hedy is experiencing the joy and gratification of being given the opportunity to transmit the combined years of experience she has in couples therapy which have culminated in the EcCT Intensive process. If you believe this process could help your couples and your work with your couples, get in touch with us.
